Brimfield 2010 was a bit of a disappointment. There were plenty of tractors and people although the weather was wet. Field conditions were a bit greasy but workable. No, the main problem as far as we were concerned was, this year, the organisors, on instructions from the land owner, set us to plough round and round, one behind the other. This meant that no-one got the chance to practise setting up their work or ploughs, one of the main reasons for these type of days. I am not a perfect ploughman but I try the best I can to leave a plot that looks reasonable. With Mark, Edward, Brian and the lads, our plots are always levelled with cultivators and rotovators when we have finished. I know that some people go just to tear around and make a mess, but we try our best to leave the plot in good condition. Ploughing round was frustrating and many tractor owners left for home early, some did not even unload which was a real pity. Ann and I had driven from Norfolk so I was going to get dirt on Dotty’s wheels at least. My first run was behind a man ploughing about 2” deep! With the EPIC bodies on the PM you need to be in at least 8” for everything to work, so that run looked a real mess. The next one was behind a TW35 with six furrows ploughing around 12” deep so again, no chance of matching. There was however, the picture of the year waiting to be taken as, when we got to the end of the run and he lifted his huge plough up, Dotty appeared framed under it! We also loaded and left early. Interesting Plaque in Ludlow. At least the tractor pulling crowd enjoyed themselves. A very strongly built Major Six conversion with a novel way of sorting the wishbone problem. He kept the ali sump but made a strong frame back to the rear axle. A couple of nice County CD50’s A very impressive lineup of the more modern “Big Fords” One for working in the woods. Looks like a very early Roadless, or could it be a Cletrac conversion? An overeager 4000? The notice on this one claimed it to be one of the first mechanical hedge cutters built. A nice 4000-4. and a 4100-4 with a ZF axle. Bonnet details from a very nice restored Super Dexta. A dismal damp day but with some bright spots. We went back to the farm for a cup of tea then back to the hotel. Ludlow market on Monday morning cheered us up and the Red Devil cheese from the cheese stall warmed us internally too.
